Meet
Flowerpot Arts

Making visual arts accessible to everyone, regardless of background. We believe creativity is a right, not a privilege reserved for the few

Flowerpot Arts is a community organisation dedicated to breaking down barriers in the visual arts. We work with people from working-class and marginalised backgrounds who have traditionally been excluded from creative industries.

Through accessible workshops, mentorship, and skills development in photography, film, and graphic design, we're creating pathways for talented individuals who might otherwise never get the chance to explore their creative potential. Our approach tackles both the financial costs and cultural stigma that prevent people from participating in the arts. We're here to unlock creativity in communities that have been overlooked for too long

Our Story

Flowerpot Arts was founded by Douglas Edgar in 2025 after reflecting on his own feelings of exclusion from the creative industries. His lived experience of the criminal justice system revealed how systemic barriers prevent marginalised groups from accessing cultural opportunities.

After researching the gap in visual arts provision and discovering a critical shortage of organisations supporting underserved communities, the decision was clear: create a space where people could grow, learn, and belong.

What We Value

We believe that creativity belongs to everyone, not just those who can afford expensive training or who fit a certain social profile. We value authenticity, potential, and community.

Representation matters deeply to us - both in who creates art and whose stories get told. We're committed to social justice, recognising that access to the arts isn't just about cultural enrichment; it's about mental health, self-esteem, employment pathways, and community strength. Above all, we value the dignity and talent of every person who walks through our doors, regardless of where they've come from or what they've been through.
